It’s decided! We’ve bought the plane tickets and started planning. This year, for our 3rd bike tour, we’re going to La Belle France! We’ve traveled in France and we’ve toured by bicycle in the US. This year, to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary (!), we’re going to tour France en vélo.
There are a series of routes in Europe called “Eurovelo.” We’ve chosen Eurovelo 6, which winds through the Loire valley, land of the castles. We’ll start in Nantes on the west coast and travel east towards Basel, Switzerland. We actually don’t have a planned end point this time. We don’t even have a planned itinerary. We’ll start out and see where we get to. We’re taking camping gear (just for sleeping, not cooking) for the first time. This gives us flexibility in case there are no hotels, B&Bs or hostels with space where we stop on a given day. But the beauty of this route is that there are lots of options, unlike the rails to trails in the US with very few small towns along the way.
We’re super excited to get started, but that will have to wait for summer. Stay tuned!
